An AI teacher bolted onto a tuition business isn't the same as an AI-native one

90+ My Tuition App, a Kerala-origin K-12 tuition platform with more than five lakh students, has taken a strategic investment from Equity Intelligence, the firm run by investor Porinju Veliyath, to fund national expansion and what it is calling its next-generation AI Teacher Programme. The financial terms have not been disclosed. Source. The company was built the old way: video lessons, mock tests, doubt-solving, and a sales team that calls parents directly, mostly across Kerala and CBSE households in the Gulf. That distribution is the real asset here. Five lakh students is not a number an AI-native product builds in year one.

Which is exactly why the AI Teacher Programme is worth watching rather than assuming. I built InfiNotes AI-native from the first line of the product. The AI was not a layer added on top of an existing catalogue of content, it was the reason a student opened the app in the first place. A tuition business retrofitting an AI teacher onto a sales-led model that already works is a different problem. The AI has to earn its place next to something students already trust, or it becomes a line in the press release that nobody in the actual classroom experience notices.

The honest caveat: an undisclosed amount from a well known value investor, not a specialist edtech or AI fund, tells me less about the strength of the AI thesis and more about a founder extending runway on a trusted relationship. That is a completely legitimate way to raise money. It is not evidence that the AI Teacher Programme changes what a student actually gets.

So the number worth watching here was never the funding amount, since that was never even published. It is whether course completion and outcomes move once the AI Teacher Programme actually ships to those five lakh students, not whether the phrase shows up in a press release.
